Stockholm Bound!

August 20, 2017 8:31 pm

Today is my last day in Indiana (and the United States) until December. I am currently sitting in the Indianapolis Airport, and tomorrow morning, I will land in Stockholm, Sweden, where I will spend the entire semester. (And it still doesn’t quite seem real!) This summer has flown by, but it has been absolutely wonderful….

Book Two Complete

July 23, 2017 4:22 pm

Fun fact: I have been writing my second novel for about two and a half years. On July 16th, one week ago, I finished the rough draft. At 326 pages, 81,628 words, and hours upon hours spent procrastinating schoolwork, it’s all done. I could not be more excited. Now, this is a rough draft, so…

A Poetic Glimpse

June 17, 2017 4:14 am

Hello, everyone! Now that we are about a month out from the end of the semester (mind-blowing, I know), I thought I might share a poem I wrote for my final portfolio. I had a lot of fun experimenting with form and voice, because poetry is not something with which I have much experience. I hope you…

Two Decades Down

May 22, 2017 4:11 pm

Today, I am twenty and no longer a teenager. This is insane. Mom has hung streamers all over the kitchen, and Dad made the annual spray paint birthday age that he tapes to our window. The dogs jumped on me to wake me up. A whole bunch of people have sent well wishes, and I…

An Attempt at Poetry

March 10, 2017 2:23 am

Hello, all! To make up for my complete lack of posts the last few weeks, I have decided to share something I have been working on creatively. I am currently enrolled in a poetry-writing class, which, if you didn’t know, is a complete departure from my normal writing adventures. Prose is much more my thing….

Friday is for Favorites: Happy Thoughts

February 3, 2017 7:22 pm

When I’m asked to make lists, it usually takes me about three times as long as expected. Be it a list of groceries, positive personality traits, likes and dislikes, or even types of animals, I always manage to get stuck. It’s not as though I can’t write a list; the larger problem is when I…

“Nora”

February 1, 2017 4:12 pm

Hello, all! Second semester here at Colby College begins today. It definitely doesn’t seem like it should be called spring semester; it is currently snowing, and we are supposed to get a couple inches. Before we let go of JanPlan and jump into this next semester, however, I thought you might like to see what…

Happy New Year!

January 5, 2017 3:49 am

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday, and that the transition back to routine is going smoothly. Have you made any New Year’s resolutions? Most years, I don’t, but this year is a little different. I need to finish the trilogy I’m working on (we’ll see how quickly that happens—I make no…

Friday is for Favorites: Finished Finals Feelings

December 16, 2016 11:51 pm

Well, the semester is completed, and it has been a whirlwind. I apologize for only having posted one post the last couple weeks; I’m sure at least one of you was chomping at the bit to procrastinate with me. Just kidding. Don’t procrastinate by reading this. Watch something like Black Mirror instead (if you’re looking…

Notes on Conrad

December 6, 2016 5:06 pm

Conrad, of all the characters in Shining Shira, gave me the most trouble. It wasn’t that I didn’t love him or appreciate him. I just didn’t know how to write a man. Over the five drafts I wrote, he and Kaelo are the two characters who changed most. Kaelo became more multidimensional and received a…
